05/20/22 - Day 05 - Juneau, AK

We are certainly slipping back into our cruising lifestyle.  We enjoyed a nice sleep and woke up around 5am with the ship quietly and stealthily sailing up the Endicott Arm fjord.  The scenery was breathtaking and we reached a constriction point well into the fjord where the ship's bridge crew slowly rotated the ship 180º, discharged some passengers for a glacier tour up close and personal.  We then slowly made our way out of the Endicott Arm and back into the main channel were two other ships began to follow us.  It was drop dead gorgeous weather that carried on through to our port stop in Juneau

At the port of Juneau, a city when I grew up  in, the Disney Wonder was already moored and we took the main berthing location and the Carnival Spirit moored directly behind us and the Zuiderdam was moored between the Spirit and the Wonder.  It was around 1:30 when disembarkation began and once again, we let the masses exit the ship and then we strolled off. We had no specific plans for the day as we have been here several times previously.  We did end up purchasing a city / glacier tour for $65 per person from M&M tours.  It was a fine tour that took us across the bridge to Douglas Island for a photo opportunity, $10,000,000 whale sculpture photo opportunity and a drive out to the Mendenhall Glacier when we had an hour to take in the sights,  We went looking for bears, but did not find any. The tour was on a former school bus which had been repainted and newly re-upholstered seats.  Kenny, our driver and guide, was full of jokes!  When we return in July, we plan to take a whale watching tour.

Back in town, we did some shopping and found some halibut and shrimp ceviche dinner at a Mexican Food Truck near our ship.  It was really good.  We reboarded around 5pm with virtually no waiting line.  Later I watched from our balcony as the line got very long. I also updated our ARRIVCAN app trip for our upcoming Victoria port stop.

The last passenger sauntered down the gangway about 20 minutes past the 7:30pm ALL ABOARD time.  At 8:07 Quantum stealthily slid away from the dock, rotated 180º clockwise and began sailing back down the Gastenow Channel.

We watched a special show in the Two70º showroom demonstrating the high technology available in this venue.  The Ukrainian classical violinist, Victoria, also performed a short set which was really good.

Immediately following the prior show we took in the 10pm Elton John tribute show which was performed by Andy Elton.  He was good.

It was a picture perfect day, and it was the third nice day in a row.  Would this continue?
